Who can attend our clinic for initial assessment?
Children and adolescents with developmental, learning, behavioural, social and emotional difficulties aged 5-17 years old.
What age can my child continue to attend the clinic?
Patients can continue seeing our Paediatricians until the age of 25 years as needed for ongoing management.
How long is my child’s appointment?
Paediatric initial appointment varies from half day (4 hours) to full day (8 hours if medication testing requested) depending on assessment needs. Medication testing on initial appointment is reserved for patients travelling from a far and this will be confirmed at time of booking. Paediatric review appointments vary from 2-2.5 hours depending on assessment and review testing requirements. Psychology therapy appointments vary but are mostly 50 minutes and will be confirmed at time of booking.
If my child has had a previous cognitive / IQ testing, does this have to be repeated?
This will be at our Paediatrician's discretion on the day of appointment and will depend on recency, details of previous testing and current concerns. Our team perform a range of different assessments as part of our initial comprehensive work-up and it is important that we have the opportunity to spend time observing and interacting directly with your child (not rely on previous reports) to provide accurate assessment and provide individualised management. Pricing may vary slightly and this will be discussed at time of appointment.
Can my child just have a brain map or medication test at initial appointment if they have had other assessments previously?
No, there is no option for any test or investigation to be performed in isolation and they are interpreted together in combination with our specialists’ expertise. Our specialist team perform a range of different assessments as part of our initial comprehensive work-up and it is important that we have the opportunity to spend time observing and interacting directly with your child (not rely on previous reports) to provide independent accurate assessment and individualised management. This allows our team to understand the full picture of your child’s strengths and limitations.
Do you provide ongoing therapy and behaviour management?
Yes, cognitive behaviour therapy, family counselling, behaviour management, parenting strategies and social skills training is available by our psychology team after initial assessment. Telehealth options is available for those coming from afar.
Can I get a repeat script without an appointment?
Usually not. Many medications that are prescribed by a Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrician are restricted "Schedule 8" drugs and clinical review is mandated for repeat prescriptions. This restricts our ability to provide repeat scripts without a clinical review.
What areas do we service?
Predominately NSW due to patient travelling time but we currently see patients from all over Australia including Canberra, Central Coast, Wollongong, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.
What is the difference between a Registered Psychologist and Provisional Psychologist?
When working with clients, Registered and Provisional Psychologists provide the same services, the main difference being their level of experience and their stage of training.
A Registered Psychologist, or sometimes just referred to as a Psychologist, has completed their psychological training. A Provisional Psychologist is still undergoing clinical training, and will work with the support of a supervisor. Both Psychologists and Provisional Psychologists are registered practitioners with AHPRA and are able to provide therapeutic and assessment services to clients.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have completed specialist training in psychiatry. They can prescribe medications such as antidepressants, and typically deal with more complex mental health or behavioural issues.
Psychologists provide treatment for mental health and behavioural issues, such as anxiety and low self-esteem. They can work collaboratively with psychiatrists to help optimise a child’s wellbeing.
